Our client’s brief was for a contemporary, energy efficient addition that was sympathetic to their existing home in Robertson in the NSW Southern Highlands.
Building Versatility was engaged to design and construct alterations and additions to complement our client’s relaxed lifestyle and make the most of the rural views on their property. We renovated and expanded their existing kitchen to accentuate the county look and feel. Dining and lounge areas now open onto landscaped lawn and garden.
Our client had a clear vision and specific design requirements for her kitchen and new bathroom. We engaged specialist trades early in the design process and worked collaboratively with them to design and execute beautiful rooms for our client to enjoy and showcase to family and friends.
The extension was oriented to maximise winter sun penetration and we incorporated a thermal break to this section of the house to ensure that the warmth was retained in the house. This was created utilising cladding, wrapping and air sealing as well as insulation to walls, sub floor and ceiling.
The selection of engineered cladding material to match the original weatherboards meant that the exterior façade of the extension and the new decks blend seamlessly with the original structure whilst ensuring longevity.
Our client’s home is situated in bushfire prone land and as such was subject to bushfire regulation and specific requirements to protect the home in the event of bushfire attack. We worked closely with our client to ensure that their material selections matched the level of protection needed. And we ensured that our construction methods were best practice for construction in bushfire prone land.
External works included an all weather access road, reshaping the garden area around the house and installation of an attractive sandstone wall to provide acoustic buffering of highway noise. We designed and built a deck so our client can enjoy their courtyard garden and early morning sun.
Our client is very pleased with the result and quite often comments on how comfortable the home is to live in now. She is so impressed with our ability to transform a cold house with winter drafts into a very liveable home with a constant temperature all year round.
